Juan Felipe Herrera estudió en UCLA y Stanford University. Su amplia obra poética incluye libros como 187 Reasons Mexicanos Can?t Cross the Border: Undocuments 1971-2007, Half of the World in Light: New and Selected Poems (2008), and Border-Crosser with a Lamborghini Dream (1999). También ha escrito relatos breves, novelas para jóvenes y literatura infantil. Su libro Half The World in Light (2009) fue ganador del National Book Critics Circle Prize.
